![]() ![]() She is survived by her father, four children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and two sisters. Our mom Sandra was predeceased by her mother Mrs. Despite not having a church affiliation, she believed in God and was a strong believer of treating people with respect and fairness. She was hard-working and preferred to keep busy everyday. Our mom also worked as a security officer for years until she retired last year. Keeping the family together was her priority and the simple things in life made our mother happy. She loved to cook, watch television court proceeding shows, collect gadgets for the home, collect memories along the way and preserve them, gardening, decorating her home especially during the holidays, often told jokes and most of all she looked forward to holiday gatherings and the occasional summer barbeques. She frequently went to the beach, took road trips, having family gatherings with plenty of food and beverages. Blige, Tupac, Gladys Knight and Snoop Dog. She savored the tunes of Janet Jackson, Ray Goodman and Brown, Johnny Gill, Mary J. She also enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City and FoxWoods casinos, concerts to see the performances by Smokey Robinson, Bobby Brown, Michael Jackson just to name a few. She was also recognized and loved as a second mother to other children. It is no secret that Sandra loved, spoiled and provided for her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. ![]() Our mom was also protective of her space, family and who she let in. She was out-going, strong, hard-working, spontaneous and as she matured her free-loving spirit remained the same. Our mom Sandra became the matriarch of the family after the passing of her mother. Throughout their parenting ship they shared a bond. Out of this union she had 4 amazing children and continued to raise their children together. Our mom Sandra later moved to Mount Vernon, NY where she met Herbert DeVore. She continued to live in Nyack, NY and became a volunteer Candy Striper at Nyack Hospital where she also worked. Our mom Sandra was educated in the Nyack Public School system and successfully received her diploma. Sandra was the youngest of two siblings at the time. Sandra Daniel (SD) was born in Washington, DC on Wednesday, November 4, 1953, to parents Jean and Samuel Daniel. With Hankerson, Knight had another son, named Shanga.ģ.IN LOVING MEMORY OF SANDRA DANIEL also known as SD, our beloved mother, daughter, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, friend was called home on March 6, 2021. When Knight was married to Newman, they had two children together, Kenya and James III. Gladys Knight has been married four times she was married to James Newman from 1960-1973, Barry Hankerson from 1974-1979, Les Brown from 1995-1997, and has been married to current husband William McDowell since 2001. ![]() She Has 3 Children From 2 of Her 4 Marriages Following that win, she formed a music group with her siblings, Merald and Brenda, and cousins, Elenor and William Guest, called “The Pips.” The group eventually evolved into “Gladys Knight & the Pips” and had their first hit in the 1960s with “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” One of their biggest hits was “Midnight Train to Georgia.”Īccording to, when Brenda and Elenor left The Pips to get married, Knight’s cousin Edward Patten joined the group along with Langston George.Ģ. Knight began her singing career in the 1950s when she was only 7 years old when she won The Original Amateur Hour TV contest.
